Born in Ohio, Shirley Steele moved to Montana with her husband Ben Steele in 1959. In Billings they found a vibrant community of artists and writers. Shirley Steele’s poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies. In 1992, Ben, a World War II POW and artist, and Shirley Steele received the Montana Governor’s Award for the Arts.
