Chandler Cohagen: Montana Architecture – Homes Designed for Living
Kevin Kooistra presents a slide program highlighting a remarkable cluster of Billings’ homes designed by the prominent Montana architect Chandler Cohagen. Two dozen historic homes, designed by Cohagen between 1920-1940, fill the tree-lined streets of the North Elevation and Grandview Subdivisions, near Pioneer Park. In addition to home building, Chandler Cohagen designed hundreds of schools and churches in Montana and Wyoming.
A Montana historian and anthropologist for 35 years, Kooistra is the director of the Western Heritage Center. The program is sponsored by the Yellowstone Historic Preservation Board and Montana State Historic Preservation Office.
The lecture is free. The program broadcast is live on the museum’s Facebook page. Located at 2822 Montana Avenue in Billings, the museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm. A ground level ADA entrance is west of the museum’s main entrance. For Information about future programs check out www.ywhc.org or call the museum at (406) 256-6809.
